All is forgiven BT,
“BT reveals next super-fast broadband locations”

Our lovely little town is one of 37 included in their plan to roll out 40mbit (10mbit up) connections. Certainly beats the pants off the 512kb we have now.

Just a miner rant. We ran out of coal today. Had to close up the tunnels.

We pay for up to 8mb broadband with BT. Which means we can get any speed from dialup stylee to 8mb for a fixed monthly fee. Right now we’re connected at 800kbps down, 200kbps up (not quite that 8mbps huh?) but it costs us the exact same amount as somebody nearer to the exchange who is getting away with the full 8mbps connection. Download speeds are throttled throughout the daytime (which is just great considering Steam and iTunes provide my entertainment kicks) so UT3 took me approximately 3 days to download.

The lowest recorded speed was 200kbps down.

We’re moving from BT needless to say. And if any researchers are reading I won’t be recommending them. It’s a poor service. We’ll be with Be Broadband soon – apparently they’re superfantastic.

Ps. This isn’t the actual download speed which is currently 3kbps at the moment, 60kbps max.

More than the usual

Yea, so outside of Tormi I’m planning on getting into some hardcore iPhone dev-ing nonsense thanks to them awesome sounding OS 3.0 features.
Also. It’s still in the design stages but a new Sam is definitely happening. Me and Pineapple have been throwing around ideas for a bit now, but this new concept I’ve come up with is, well, a step back to the very first Sam game but with some heavy multiplayer stuff. And given that most people don’t have 4 controllers wired to their computers it might well be a console release.

So I was 3810 days late but I finally watched the Truman Show. Bloody marvelous. But you already knew that. You knew that last century! So lets try some real life stuff but really quickly…

Downloaded the Resistance PSP demo a few days back, terrible controls, not buying. Unreal Tournament 3 is now decent at last. Installed the Jonny Bravo tank and Pee Wee herman infected mods for L4D and they’re very high-larious, if only Valve didn’t completely break the matchmaking system with their last update. Becky and Steve didn’t get married. I was going to go to Scotland with Caroline later this month but that’s off now. Lime+Coca Cola is beautiful. Meeting up with a friend from Sony in a couple of weeks. This whole Jade Goody thing is really bad. And finally my cousins set up a zorbing company thing, weeeeeee.

Oh and the usual Tormi progress bit. Been working to some quite intricate details on a new mine area I’m adding based off Speedwell Cavern, Blue John Cavern and the Wieliczka Salt Mine (went there a few years ago whilst out visiting family). It’s probably needless but I love making stuff like this and trying to get as accurate as I can whilst taking in proper mining design ideas. Infact a lot of the undiluted cave bits have taken into account water erosion n’ serch. I’ve even found schematics for both hydro and thermal powerstations and copied their basic outline 1:1 into the game. Pointless? Oh my yes. But accurately pointless.

And finally a picture a friend drew that I think sums up how Sonic is these days;
